Why Biofeedback at Aspire Psychotherapy
Our emphasis is not solely on how biofeedback technology can support you, but on your overall picture of mental health and wellness. While biofeedback is one tool to help you learn to regulate emotions, lower anxiety and improve performance, your expert clinician may incorporate Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Coaching, Virtual Reality and other therapies into your personalized treatment plan. Biofeedback is one of multiple services offered through our Peak Performance center, directed by Brie Scolaro, LCSW. With a background in collegiate sports and a focus on Sports Social Work, Brie is uniquely able to understand the practice and discipline required to make impactful and sustainable behavioral change.
What does biofeedback entail?
Biofeedback is offered as a short-term training ranging from 4-12 sessions in length. Training focuses on teaching you the science and the technology, identifying and managing stressors, and learning concrete skills.
During a biofeedback training session, your clinician will attach heart rate sensors to your body (finger or ear sensor easily clips on) to measure your physiological responses. These sensors send information to a computer or device, which then provides feedback in the form of sounds, images, or other sensory cues. You will learn how to use this feedback to control your body's stress response and improve your physical and mental health.
The training program begins with a Baseline Psychophysiological Assessment to develop and custom treatment plan tailored to your symptoms and goals. Training can be done in the office, and through the use of at-home rental equipment.
Testimonials
“I was having anxiety, panic attacks and insomnia last year and started seeking help. I am now a much more balanced, mindful and calm person who feels empowered with an armada of useful strategies and techniques to manage and regulate stressful situations in my life. If you’re reading this review and trying to decide if you should seek therapy or not, I would say do it. What’s the worst that can happen? You’d go a few times and then decide it’s not for you. What’s the best that can happen? Your life changes for the better and there’s no turning back, only looking forward.”
“Brie’s focus on opening up to difficult feelings WHILE taking committed action is what therapy needs, especially during the pandemic when so many feel stuck. Brie makes their clients feel safe, comfortable and like someone is truly in their corner rooting for them the entire way.”
